my color palette consists of red, purple, pink, orange, yellow, green, seafoam, blue, teal, and turquoise. i like my greens and blues. specificity is important there.
Ok this is bullshit because my dad was an artist and he’d often use the names of the paint colors to describe a shade. Burnt umber. RAW umber. Cadmium yellow. Alizarin crimson. Pthalo blue, etc etc. It’s an artist thang. Why we gotta make it about boy/girl bullshit? Too much division, pee-pulllllll…..
That said, this is not to say that the artist has the upper hand in the names of a color, just a different way of looking at them. The sky blue is a light blue is a blue period. No right or wrong answers. Just different. Sermon is over, we now return you to “Lost” or whatever the fuck these goddamn kids watch now.
Color names will be the death of me. I’m taking a color class and a painting class this semester, so of course this is all getting pounded into my head.
