News, news, news! ….bewbs…lol |
Hi Internet, my summer’s been okay. How has yours been? I have some super cool news! I’ll keep this post short.
1.) Wunderkind is FINALLY happening! After eight months of writing scripts, recording voices, recruiting actors, drawing pictures - Development is done and I’m starting production! I’m currently working on episode one, and you have no idea how stoked I am! I definitely didn’t do this alone (thanks to everyone who has and plans to help out!) but from here on out it looks like I will be with animating it and recording my lines. I’m going to try my hardest to make all five episodes this summer to have ready for fall, but I really don’t know what pace I’ll be working at considering it’s the first episode and I’m totally new to this. I do plan to finish coloring the drawings and recording a couple of lines so I can have a teaser ready to post online!!!
SECOND
THIS IS EXCITING
I CAN’T WAIT TO TELL YOU!!!!
IT GETS MORE EXCITING…TRUST ME!!!!

ARE YOU READY?!!!!
I’M MAKING MY OWN SKETCH SHOW!!!!!!
And now just any boring old sketch show that I’m putting on the Internet every week–no! This show is going to be way too amazing for JUST the Internet. So amazing, that I’m putting out a DVD along with it! It will contain ten 15-minute episodes along with like a bajillion bonus features. For the passed two years I’ve been wanting to put my show on public access but my area doesn’t even have public access, and it was difficult recruiting actors to get together all at the same time. So I just canned the idea completely. I decided why not just record episodes and have them available for people to watch online? I know I have my videos on Youtube, but I actually want to have full length episodes rather than a 3 minute sketch per video. This way if I wanted I could have a ten minute sketch or something like An Internet Odyssey, and not bore people. I want to keep my Youtube vids as simple and short as possible. It’s in the planning stages, and I’m putting scripts together. I’m going to be recording stuff sporadically throughout the summer and maybe beginning of fall. I’m “selling” this as a show that will include a DVD, not a DVD that I happen to post on the webz too. I still don’t quite know how I’m going to do this so that you’ll actually be enticed to buy anything…but we’ll see!
Also. One Last Thing.
There may very well be an EP in the works.
I’m not sure yet.

Summertime Plans |
This week has been so hectic! I started summer school after a very quick week of lounging around doing nothing. The last week of school was pretty fantastic. We watched Slumdog Millionaire in my film class and I must say, I went into the film not expecting much. I didn’t know anything about it, just that it was nominated Best Picture. But HOLY HELL! The film started off slow but unraveled beautifully. The cinematography, acting, the soundtrack, just everything was done beautifully and I was so glad we watched it. I can’t believe I was disappointed about not getting to see About a Boy LOL.
Anyway, that day my friend Curtis offered me to write for his new Youtube series. I was so stoked because 1.) I love writing. It’s my passion. I’ve been doing it for years and can’t see myself doing anything else, so having the opportunity to ‘work’ (I use this term loosely as it isn’t really work) for one of my friends and help them out always means a lot to me. And 2.) I love Youtube. I love that people can create their own channels and broadcast themselves for the whole Internet to see, and if they’re lucky they have a chance to live out their dreams. So I spent the last week or so writing for Curtis’s series, and I think it’s going to be hilarious! I just have the last episode to write and I’ll be done! I want it to be super funny so I’m kind of taking my time. I don’t want to say a whole lot about it because it isn’t my project, I just helped with it, so I’ll just say it’s called The Internet’s Real and Dennis Hegstad and Andrew Bisante (both very funny dudes) will be making appearances, that I know of so far :]
Aside from Curtis’s series I’ve been working on my own. I haven’t been making videos lately because I’ve been planning an animated cartoon called Wunderkind. I’ve wanted to do this for the passed eight months but because of school and other stuff I neglected it. My good friend and ridiculously talented artist Stephanie O’Donnell (#4 in my top friends! Check her out!) drew up some characters for me, now I have to work on the animation, which is going to take a lot of time but I’m only making five episodes and since there’s no expectations I’m being as patient as possible.
Sad thing is I’ve hardly had the chance to even get started, despite really wanting to. I figured since it was the summer I had a chance to work on it. WRONG! I’ve been busy with school (I’m taking 4 classes, 2 this month and 2 in July) but guess what? I was unaware that my history class had a mandatory meeting on Tuesday. So when I was out playing tennis with my friend Kim, I SHOULD have been attending the orientation for the class (it’s online.) I had finished all of my assignments for the week and it was only two days into the class (I was so proud of myself!) only to log onto Blackboard and find that my history course was gone! UGH! Fortunately I saved all my assignments, so I’m pretty much begging my teacher to get me back into the class and that I’m more than willing to retake my quiz since it’s due on Sunday. We’ll see how it goes.
Despite that, this summer is going to be amazing! I’m going to be super busy with school as I have a set goal to complete all these classes so I can graduate in a year, but I will always fit time to make Youtube vids on my current channel and the new one I’m working on. I can’t believe I have 600+ subscribers! I know it’s not a lot, but the fact that hundreds of people are interested in my videos and actually think I’m funny means the world to me. I know it’s just Youtube and the Internet, but hey, I’ve had the opportunity to share my comedy and though I’ve gotten mixed reactions, hearing the good is worth hearing the bad as well. I started out as a kid making stupid videos with the intention of amusing my friends; views, subscribers, none of that mattered to me, and thanks to some people (I feel like this should be addressed to the people involved specifically, not publicly in a blog) I’ve gotten further than I ever imagined. So thanks to everyone who’s been apart in making a kid from Central California happy. It’s all motivated me to pursue my dreams, because I know that there are people out there who would appreciate my work if it was exposed to the world.

Yay for Comedyz! |
I have a comedy gig! I’m writing sketches for my Alma Mater’s comedy show! I was apart of the drama department while I attended so I know what it’s like to throw in dry, totally unfunny sketches at the last minute to fill in time. I know what it’s like to want to avoid that from happening “the next time.” So when I was asked to do it I immediately jumped at the opportunity. I’ll be working on it all day so I can have it complete by tomorrow night, so I will post my progress in a separate blog. Until then!

Movie Summary Time! |
I watched some new movies this weekend. I’d like to express how I felt about them, but then it would just turn into a long post, and I wouldn’t want to ruin anything for anyone. So instead, I’ll just write the general storyline and change the ending so no one is left disappointed.
There Will Be Blood - A self-made oilman takes on the biggest oil gig of his career. Discovering the difficult level of this new job, rather than waiting it out for a successful outcome, he flips out and decides to go to medical school and becomes a doctor with an emphasis in blood transfusions.
10,000 BC - We are in the year 10,000 BC where everyone has commercial good looks and bad eyebrows. Then out of nowhere, dinosaurs show up and everyone is like “Whoa! I thought you were dead!” and the dinosaurs are like “Nah man we were just hiding! Totally fooled you!” And that was the first Thanksgiving. Midway during the film, at least what I think is midway, it suddenly goes from Camilla Belle in that dude’s arms to We Are Marshall , which makes me believe that Matthew McConaughey can act in any film without actually having to act in the time period.
The Great Debaters- Intelligent black kids from Texas become undefeated debaters in the 1930s. When they travel to Harvard College for their final debate, Denzel Washington reveals that he stole all his speech ideas from off the Internet, which Forest Whitaker invented.
Beverley Hills Chihauhau - A young, spoiled puppy from Beverly Hills becomes victim to illegal Mexican dog fighting when her owner goes away and she’s left in the care of an irresponsible teen. An ex cop dog with a past and lack of the sense of smell aids in her escape and successfully go back home to Beverly Hills with a newfound fruit for the simple things in life. That actually did happen…any alterations wouldn’t have been as outrageous as the actual film.
Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem - I don’t fucking know.

Dry |
Oh, so Internet! I recently read this book called “Dry” by Augusten Burroughs. Needless to say, it was amazing and is currently my favorite novel. It is a memoir about Burrough’s struggle with alcoholism and is the sequel to Running with Scissors, another great read.
I am very captivated by Burrough’s writing style. Burroughs clearly lies to his audience in attempt to convince himself that his drinking habits are well regulated and he is normal. The audience is capable of reading between the lines, and it seems like such a breakthrough when he himself comes to a self-realization while he is in rehab. We know he’s an alcoholic, we monitor it as the storyline drags from bar to bar, drink after drink, but it really hits us when Burroughs is standing in front of a whiteboard with a list with the total amount of times he’s drank in his life during a group session in rehab. Though it is distinct he has got a problem, it really just hits you that he had kept that hidden from us. You feel betrayed. Why didn’t he mention that he had consumed so much alcohol and drugs all these years? Why fail to mention this as you lead us along this journey claiming to simply be a social drinker? This is when you really pull for Burroughs. You want him to succeed. Straighten his life up and do the right thing.
Despite my being clean, anyone can relate to to the character on some level. Everyone has a dire need to change their lives for the positive and even though we tell ourselves that we will, most people do not have it in themselves to actually do so. I will admit that I am guilty of this. No, I’ve never picked up a drink or popped a pill or have gotten high. However, I know what it’s like to be tempted into doing something you may not want to do, and falling short or caving in. Be it changes in lifestyle or attitude, I have found myself in the same place, hating myself for once again remaining consistent. The willpower that Burroughs embodies truly is inspiring, but due to life circumstances you cannot help but blame him for his struggles. In a way it really makes you angry that he gets urges. Burroughs is supposed to be the epitome of what you desire to become. You do not want him to fail, because you don’t want to fail. Burroughs becomes you from the start to the very end.
Dry makes you want to change your life. Dismiss your bad habits and start anew. Will you actually follow through with it? Probably not. I know that I want to, but I more than likely won’t. Then again, upon becoming sober Burroughs wrote a book or two…
Burroughs is going to write, direct and produce an adaptation of the film. I think it’s a great choice since Running with Scissors was a fail of a movie, with badly casted actors *cough*EVAN RACHEL WOOD*cough* (with the lovely exception of Joseph Fiennes. I have a soft spot for that guy. I mean c’mon, his brother is Voldemort) and discarded a lot of key points that brought the story to life. Though I didn’t like the film, I still was inspired by it. Augusten Burroughs is my favorite author for this exact reason - he went from being what society would consider a fuck up and becoming a best selling author that you an relate to. Exciting stuff, though. When it comes out think of me and how much I gushed about the novel.
So now that I’m done with Dry I’m going to finish The Trial by Franz Kafka. I bought it right out of high school and never really got into it, but now I’m completely engrossed by it. Unfortunately I’m pressed on time so I never get a chance to read it in large amounts.
Any book recommendations?
